Scott Fisher has more than 10 years of experience in the golf course design industry working on numerous new golf courses, as well as a number of private club renovations, throughout the United States. This has shaped his design philosophy of incorporating the ideals of traditional design to balance with the modernness of today’s game. He was inspired by an incredible 2004 Scotland trip, which was his first exposure to links golf in the British Isles.
The foundation of his design career started when his father introduced him to the game at the age of 7. Growing up and playing golf in the southwest suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, he came to appreciate a variety of courses. It wasn’t until he took his first golf trip to Pinehurst as a freshman in high school, that he was introduced to the genius of Donald Ross. Many trips followed to the Carolinas, and this exposure opened his eyes to the possibility of golf design in his future.
He went on to study Landscape Architecture at The Ohio State University, which is the degree chosen by most of his peers in the industry. He worked in golf course maintenance and in the golf course construction field. These labor positions allowed him to gain full knowledge of the efforts of efficient teams/companies and what is needed to construct and maintain successful golf courses. Of note, he was part of the bunker construction crew for Landscapes Unlimited, which built Longaberger Golf Club* in Nashport, Ohio.
In May of 2009, Scott was accepted into the prestigious American Society of Golf Course Architects. Founded in 1946, the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) is the oldest professional organization of golf course designers in America. Its architects have designed, renovated and remodeled many of the most famous and storied courses in golf. They are active in current projects not only in the United States and Canada, but also in Europe, Asia and beyond. All ASGCA members have completed a minimum of five major golf course projects and are peer-reviewed by the ASGCA membership. This ensures that all ASGCA members are qualified and well-seasoned in golf course design with a trained eye for both functional and aesthetic excellence.**
